YERMA – FEDERICO GARCÍA LORCA
It is a poetic and theatrical production that focuses on the analysis of a tragic feeling. From the ancient and the modern, in the way of seeing tragedy. All framed in a tragic and universal Andalusian landscape through feelings expressed by each of the characters.
Leonardo: Passionate, vigorous, deeply in love with the girl who does not suit him. He was not ashamed to abandon his wife and son to run away with the Bride. He is married to the Bride’s cousin, which in a way deprives him and in turn increases his desire. He is the antagonist of the play.
“The Bride’s Father”: The Bride’s father is an old man and loves his daughter as much as he knows her. He knows that she thinks of Leonardo and not of her fiancé, but he wants to join the estates of both families and have grandchildren to work the land.
Probably the most significant mention of this symbol is found in the lullaby sung by The Mother-in-Law and The Woman in the second tableau of the first act. In this, through the use of the horse, a tragic irony is created that ruins the fatal denouement of the play.
TEATRO REAL: BLOOD WEDDING – ANTONIO GADES
The poet of Cante Jondo from Granada was a mixture of two cultures. His big liquid and dark eyes like those of the Arabs, his guitar like those of the gypsies. All this is painted there in his poetry and in his plays because he cannot deny his essence. In these three works of Garcia Lorca, the characters speak of the sayings and proverbs of the people, they are human beings enclosed in their own limitations and who are moved by that fatalistic idea that men are like puppets in the hands of a destiny that inexorably cuts the strings when it wants.
